Memory Planner | May 1 – 9 2021 | Traci Reed Designs OBG: Hearth & Hollow

Hey & hello my scrappy friends!!

Yes, it’s Melinda and I’m writing a blog post on my own blog 😂 Doesn’t happen often but I thought this would be the easiest way to share this project as I don’t have a process video!

I’m playing with the gorgeous Hearth & Hollow collection by Traci Reed Designs for this months Oldies but Goodies post which means that you can get 50% off this collection for a very limited time!

I pulled out the few bits & pieces I hadn’t used yet from this collection, plus printed all of the 3×4 cards and a few extras. I’ve matched some distress oxide inks: Victorian Velvet, Fossilized Amber & Weathered Wood, added a Rose Gold ink pad & a couple of complimentary alphas.

I’m working on a few pages in my 2021 MAMBI Big Happy Planner. Specifically, 1st to 9th May.

I’ve worked out where are all of my photos are going (I print them on sticker paper to the right size) and stock those in place leaving room for journaling.

Which is often tucked under or behind something, I just LOVE the interactive pieces!!

With my photos & places for stories in situ the FUN begins!! I basically just flipped through my supplies and when I found the “right” piece/s stuck them down.

I pulled in a number of different stamp sets to use with my inks and layered my stamps with all of the fun stickers and cards I’m using.

I really LOVE the travellers notebook signatures that Traci includes in her collections so I chose a few of those to print on my sticker paper so they are as wide as the columns in my album. You can see the 2 rainbow striped ones on the left & the blue one with all the critters is the same!

I took a tonne of photos so I could capture all of the details!! Lots of fun patterns & beautiful colours layered together and I just love these pages!

Did you notice on the photo with both pages the “extra page” I included?? I simply stuck 2 3×4 cards back to back and then punched holes to pop it into my album!

And the right page also has lots of beautiful patterns & layered details!

And more fun interactive elements. The stitching here creates the middle of an “open book!”

And I’ve also included another of the TN signatures, this one was cut down to fit the space I had left.

I am thoroughly enjoying working in this format and especially love that with digital elements I can print them as many times as I want at whatever size I want!!

Make sure if you love this gorgeous collection you head over to the Traci Reed Designs shop RIGHT NOW, so you can grab it at 50% off!

I hope that you’ve enjoyed my share today and if you have any questions at all please drop them here!

CUT to YOU | First Let Me Take a Selfie

Melinda here with you today sharing my latest creation with a super fun cut file on a super fun scrapbook layout!

I’ve used the “Selfie” cut file which you can find here in the store. Isn’t it so fun!

The photo’s I’m scrapping today are fun Summer photos so what better collection to pair them with than the vibrant Sunkissed collection by Cocoa Vanilla Studio!!

My cut file was cut in textured white cardstock and I cut it BIG!! I’ve used my Cameo to also cut the letters from the “Bright Side” 12×12 pattern paper. And the A5 Paper Stack to back the camera and a couple of layers behind my fun photo strip on the left hand side.

I just LOVE this floral camera and wish I could have one in real life! How fun would that be?!??

As you can see I have used a photo behind the lens of the camera. I just love how that brings your focus to the photo and then directs you around the rest of the page!

My largest photo was a tiny bit not wide enough, so to cover that up I’ve created an embellishment cluster, right on top of the photo and the cut file. From there I wanted to draw the eye diagonally across and down the page to my other photos.

If you’d like to see this page come together just hit that play button below! I hope you enjoy!

With such a large cut file most of my page was already designed for me so this one came together pretty quickly. And I love that I was able to overlap a few things without losing either the meaning or design of the cut file.

I hope that I have inspired you to perhaps create with a really BIG cut file or maybe to use a photo as a part of the backing of a cut file. Make sure you head over to the shop for all of the beautiful and fun designs Gwen has been loading up! Have you seen that there’s a new category in the shop for Bundles!!?! So, so great AND there is a disount when you buy any of them!

Have a fab, scrappy day and I’ll see you soon with my next share!

CTY | Love You | Mini Album

Hey there and welcome to the CUT to YOU blog today!!
Melinda here to share my most recent creation using a CUT to YOU cut file!

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is img_7661wm.jpg

Yes!! That is a mini album!!
Something different for me and all of the pages have been created using the Floral Banner #3 cut file.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is xfloral-banner-3.jpeg

So, I’ve got a tutorial video for you today showing exactly my process for what and how I cut this cut file in a couple of different ways to create my mini album pages and some step by steps below!

Firstly, after I had opened and traced the cut file in Silhouette Studio, I horizontally flipped the cut file so the banner was on the right hand side. This piece is then what I used to create the different layers and becomes the backed cut file on the front page.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is img_7662.jpg

The black base pages were created by doing an offset of the original file, setting it to 0.075in for the offset.
I then removed all of the inner pieces of the new, slightly bigger, cut file.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is img_7663.jpg

I used my Cameo to cut all of the internal pieces of the florals and the banner to easily back my cut file.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is img_7661.jpg

This was done by copying the original file and then releasing compound path.
Delete the entire outside edge of the cut file.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is img_7664.jpg

Next, select all of the pieces of 1 floral, right click and select “make compound path” and repeat for other florals and the leaves with 2 pieces.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is img_7665.jpg

Once all of your compound paths have been created select florals, banner and leaves and do another offset. This one was set to 0.05in.
After confirming your offset, delete the smaller, internal, original pieces.

Now, you have the cover cut file pieces ready to cut along with the black base pages. All that is left is the pattern paper pieces that get layered onto the black cardstock.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is img_7668.jpg

Once again, make a copy of the original cut file and release compound path. This time you need to delete all of the internal pieces which will leave you with just the outline which is the part you want cut to layer onto the cardstock.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is img_7669.jpg

It seems complicated and a little tricky but once you get started and the more you practice the easier it becomes and honestly, making mini albums with cut files means the only constraints you have to work within is your own imagination!!

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is img_7670.jpg

I have used a Cocoa Vanilla Studio collection, Fresh Cut, to create my album and used some Storybook sequins by Spieglmom Scraps to add those finishing touches.

I’m certain you worked out that this was a gift for a very close friend of mine and I’m happy to report that she loves it!

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is img_7673.jpg

Have you ever used cut files to create a mini album?? What cut file from the store do you think would make a great mini? I’d love to know!

Oh, and bonus!!! I almost forgot, I also have a video flip through of this mini for you!! I do hope you enjoy and I’m looking forward to sharing my next creation with you soon!! Until then, happy scrapping!

CUT to YOU | Remember

Hi everyone, it’s lovely to have you stop by my blog today for my latest creation for CUT to YOU!

For this page I was challenged to use a floral cut file – 2 florals in a row, who even am I anymore?!? Now, Gwen has the most beautiful floral cut files and I love every single one but sometimes it’s tricky for me to incorporate them. But I’ve gone with this beautiful “Fleur de Lily” cut file as it really spoke to me about some journalling I wanted to record.

As I created this page I realised that I wanted to keep it really soft and pretty so wanted a fairly neutral-ish, simple title so grabbed the “Hashtag Remember This” cut file and removed the top and bottom text lines in Silhouette Studio to leave me with simply “Remember”.

As you can see above, this page has no photo and that was intentional. The words on this page tell a very sad story that has stuck with me since I was 16 but it was a story that I definately wanted to include in my album.

For something different I chose to work on a 9″ x 12″ layout so sized my cut files accordingly and cut them both on textured white cardstock.

To keep my idea of “soft and pretty” I decided to use vellum to back my floral cut file pieces.
If you’ve never used vellum before heads up 😉
Tip 1 – If you add any liquid it WILL curl up!! To colour my pieces I taped them to my craft mat and painted using a mix of Shimmerz paints. These were left to air dry, because – tip 2 – vellum can meltif you heat it! I used the Silhouette software again to cut the backing pieces for the lilies and I so love how this beautiful Lily came together!

The rest of the page came together pretty quickly and easily with some stitching detail, some alpha stickers and sequins.

I hear you asking “But, the journalling Mel! Where is it?!?” Well, that is tucked away behind the white cardstock! I’ve used my stitching to create a secure hinge, printed my journalling onto vellum and stuck that onto another piece of white cardstock that is behind.

I do, of course, have a process video for you to see this page come together and, seriously, am so, so happy with how this page turned out. In fact, it’s better than I had envisioned! Though it is a sad story I am happy to have my feelings and thoughts recorded in an artistic, true to me way.

I hope you have enjoyed my share today and I hope that I have inspired to get some of your own thoughts and feelings recorded. It doesn’t always have to be front and centre of the page, especially when you have access to such beautiful floral cut files to help tell those stories!

I’m looking forward to sharing my next page with you (think fun, Summer!!) but until then, happy scrapping!

Scrap the Boys | March 2021 | Oh Dear

Hey, hey my scrappy friends!! Today I’m here to share this very busy and fun layout that I created for the March 2021 STB challenge!

The challenge this month is a “Pick 3” challenge and I chose stitching, stamping and a cut file!

I started with my title and photos and then decided I was going to use a cut file. I looked into my CUT to YOU files on my computer and really loved this one that I used – String Art Cube.

This file is actually one of the KIT to YOU cut files and when I looked at it I was super inspired by Gwen’s page in the kit so dove into my Cocoa Vanilla stash and pulled out the “Boys Rule” collection.

I’ve added stitching in both black and white around the layout and LOVE the extra detail and texture it adds.

For my stamping I picked one that says “challenge accepted” and used black archival ink to stamp a border all the way around the white cardstock.

I love seeing what the other girls have done with this challenge so make sure you head over to the STB blog to check them out!

And then, when you have chosen your 3 things and created your layout head over to the FB group here to upload your entry! I hope to see you play along!

I’ll leave you with my process video for now and I hope that you enjoy!

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is img_6675wm.jpg

So, as you can see, I have used the oh so fun and adorable brand new Gnome cut files! I seriously love these so, so much!! First up that title – “A Love Like Gnome Other“.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is love-like-gnome-other.jpg

And the other is, of course, “Mr & Mrs Gnome“, aren’t they just adorable?!

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is mr-mrs-gnome.jpg

I’m sure you noticed too all of that gorgous gold foil!! That is the stunning new “Fab Foils” from Spiegelmom Scraps. This month we are collaborating Fab Foils & Cut Files for some shiny fun!!

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is fab-foil-and-cut-files.jpg

This foil adds so much pop to a project and, once you get the hang of applying it, it is so easy to work with! As you can see I’ve used it here to back parts of Mr & Mrs Gnome and also to add in the letters for the title.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is img_6680.jpg

Now, because I like to challenge myself (apparently lol) I have also decided to play along with one of this months CSI challenges!

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is case-file-345.png

I was inspired by the colour palette, the theme of love, the idea of writing my journalling in letter format and those little pops of black in the doodled type images.

I have a process video for you which is linked below to show just how this page came together and I do hope you enjoy!

I’ll leave you with a few close ups but make sure you head over to the STB blog for all of the other amazing DT inspiration we have to share!

Scrap the Boys | January 2021 | Dirty Feet are the Happiest Ones!!

Hey and hello my scrappy friends and a very big Happy 2021!! I hope that however you welcomed the New Year you are not paying too heavily for it today lol

My first share for 2021 is my take on the beautiful mood board for Scrap the Boys for January 2021.

I was totally inspired by the colours in the mood board for this page and actually pulled a back ground that I had already started on without any actual plan for!

I had pre-stamped this white card stock background with Heidi Swapp Toner Ink using some Tim Holtz and PinkFresh Studio stamps and left it to await the “right” page. When I saw this mood board I chose orange foil and then used blues and teals over the top.

I seriously LOVE how this background came together! Like, seriously! And the most interesting bit is that I probably wouldn’t have chosen this colour scheme with out the mood board prompt.

When I finally decided on my photo the rest of my page came together pretty quickly! I added some Heidi Swapp foil to some alpha stickers to get a perfect match and also pulled out a bunch of Minc stickers, paper and ephemera pieces to add and layered things up until I was happy. You can see my process on the video link below!

I can’t wait to see how the mood board inspires you this month! Head over here to load up your take on the challenge. And over here to see the other amazing DT creations for more inspiration! And here are a few close ups for you!

I hope you have enjoyed and I look forward to sharing more with you soon! Fingers crossed for coming up with a plan AND sticking to it for 2021 for me lol Happy scrapping!!

CUT to YOU | Lovely

Hello and welcome to my blog today!!!

I don’t know about you but this year sure has given me time to think about the things I’m grateful for and lots of time to scrap!! Today I have for you a scrapbook layout about ME! And some fun winter PJ’s! I hope you enjoy!

I don’t know if you have seen this most gorgeous fox in the store but I have seriously been hanging out to use her for the longest time! She is “Mrs Fox” is available here in the CUT to YOU store. I have cut her on the “Stepping Stones” pattern paper in the Daydream collection by Cocoa Vanilla Studio. The colours in this collection were just PERFECT for this photo!

Gah, isn’t she just the cutest little fox ever?!? However, I do think she needs a “Mr Fox”, Gwen…..
Anyways, I have backed her using the 6×8 Paper Stack in the Daydream collection and then used that gorgeous blue with the feathers for my background. Mrs Fox and my photo just pop right off that background!

As usual, I have a process video for you all! Please be aware, this video was made away from home so looks a little different to my “normal” videos but I figured a video was better than no video 😉

I’ll leave you with a few close up shots of this and I do hope that I have inspired you to scrap a little something about YOU!!

If you are reading this post the day it goes live there are only 9 short days until the excitement of Christmas morning is actually here! However you celebrate, even if your Christmas Day is a not a “traditional Christmas celebration”, I wish you all a magical day, filled with lots of love and laughter and hopefully surrounded by those you love!

Thanks for stopping by and have a fantastic remainder of December and 2020!!
