{Colour Blast} My Special Boy ~ A Scrapbook Layout

Hey, hey!! Happy Saturday, Melinda here with you again today and I’m sharing some “special” photo’s of my big boy that I had lots of fun scrapping!!

I can’t wait to pull these out for his 18th or 21st, or heck whenever it seems funny to show some embarrassing kiddie photo’s!! This page started with these photo’s and title – I knew when I had these printed this HAD to be the title. I chose my alphas and then my colour scheme was picked for me – Just Blue and Bling!!

There is a process video here that you can watch and see my whole process and step-by-steps coming up!

Black cardstock base – after I realised I had NONE I stocked up and went straight for it for this page. A text stencil in the background and Just Blue Colour Paste for some texture and colour – I just LOVE the way the shimmer products POP on black!

After the Colour Paste was dry – I may have helped 😉 – I grabbed my Just Blue Colour Shimmer Spray and Singin The Blues Colour Shimmer Spray and simply sprayed onto my background over my stencilling.

Because the background was not prepared with gesso it dried pretty quickly so I got to splattering – I have used a combination of the Colour Shimmer Spray’s in Just Blue, Singin The Blues and, of course, Bling and also the same colours in the Colour Shimmer Pots/Cubes.

Time to build all my layers – I have used almost ALL Australian suppliers including Cocoa Vanilla Studios (You Rock collection), D-lish Scraps, Rainbow Splendor & Corbett Creations and also Flutterby Designs. Lots of blues and whites and then some extra texture with the wood veneer. The Bear may not make sense but I have always referred to my big boy as my Baby Bear and at the age he was in these photos he was OFTEN referred to as just that!

My final touches were some journalling using a white paint pen, some white thread and white splatters. My white splatters were a combination of Heavy White Gesso and water using a paintbrush and I love how it lifts the whole page!

Here are a few close ups

I just did a big batch of photo’s recently and included some of these older photo’s and am loving remembering the stories and scrapping them, I have so many ideas now!!

I hope I have inspired you to maybe pull out some black card stock or perhaps some older photo’s and have a play!

Until next time, happy scrapping – remember, the messier it is the more fun it is lol

{Colour Blast} Magic & Brains ~ A Scrapbook Layout

Hello my scrappy friends and welcome to my blog today! I’m here sharing my last post for Colour Blast for January. I hope you enjoy my process!

Funny how I came to this design though because I started with a patterned paper background and decided I just didn’t love it, heck I didn’t even like it really so I thought I would use what I had done to create something I at least liked!!

First up – patterned paper and White Heavy Gesso. A thick-ish/random, smeary coat in the area where I was going to put my photo’s. I left that over night to dry.

When I came back the next day I turned my camera on and you can see my process from here on out below and keep scrolling for my step by steps….

I decided I wanted a dark contrast so grabbed my Dusty Charcoal Colour Paste and a stencil and after I marked where my photos were going I added some paste in 2 different areas. And smeared it on the top left so added a 3rd place with the paste.

Before this dried I knew I wanted an orange/black/gold colour scheme so I grabbed my Bling Colour Embossing Powder and sprinkled a little here and there over my Colour Paste and heat set the lot! Not only does heat setting it set the embossing powder but it also makes the Paste all bubbly and gives more awesome texture!

At this point I was thinking “Hrm, I’ll add a bit more colour and maybe I’ll start to love it more” so I grabbed my Sunset and Saffron Colour Sprays and some packaging and got to work using the smooshing (yep, that’s the techy word 😉 ) technique, working a small-ish section at a time and drying in between.

While I was working on that it occurred to me that the reason the 3rd spot of paste wasn’t gelling was because I hadn’t added gesso first, so I told myself “I’ll add some smooshing here too and that will work better”. TBH with you, NOPE, just nope! Ok, time to re-think my idea!

I grabbed some circle punches and dies and got to chopping up the paper – I did feel some satisfaction here – and immediately I was liking it better!! White cardstock and clear gesso for the background and I was ready to go again!

I added some ink to both my circles and the thin mat I had applied to my photos using Archival Black ink and placed the circles and photos in a configuration, first horizontally, that I thought would work. Meh, so I tried vertically and was like “Yay!! THIS is it!!”

Remove everything from the page again, grab my black archival ink and a couple of texture stamps and stamp, stamp, stamp!!

Next, I used both my Bling Colour Shimmer Spray and Colour Shimmer Pot to apply lots of pretty gold to the background. I sprayed the mist first, I wanted a fine, light coverage then I used the Bling Colour Shimmer Cube with both the packaging technique and also a paint brush and added colour to my hearts content.

Oh, and of course splatters! I used my paint brush and Colour Shimmer Pot. And Colour Spray in Roadbase also using a brush!

I added some gold stitching with my sewing machine through some of the circles and then it was time to stick, stick, stick!

I did add some more Bling splatters after all the circles were stuck down but before the photo was stuck down.

And lots of close ups! Enjoy!

So, just because you are not loving what you started does not mean that either a) you need to ditch the whole lot or b) you have to “put up with” and keep what you don’t love!! Play! I’m sure, like me you have a good stash of awesome product that can sometimes be neglected, pull it out and PLAY!!!

That’s it for me for this post and January so see you again next month, I cannot wait to play along with the next challenge, it’s a fun one 😉

{Colour Blast} Cherish ~ A Scrapbook (rainbow explosion) Layout

Hey, hey my scrappy friends and welcome to my blog today!! I have my first share for the year for Colour Blast and I even surprised myself with the end design lol

I played along with the January challenge for this page and I even shared this sneak in the Colour Blast Creative Corner FB group so now you get to see the whole page.

And here, again, for you is the January challenge! You will notice that I improvised and use black patterned paper instead of black card stock – I had NO black card stock!! Argh!!!

You can find my process video on my YT channel or just click play below!

First up, black gesso smeared randomly on my patterned paper where I knew I wanted to place my 2 clusters. You can see that I have switched sides with my clusters, I felt my photo worked better on the bottom-ish left so ran with that! That’s the beauty of a sketch, right?!

Next up, COLOUR!! I cannot express how much I seriously LOVE the way the Colour Shimmer products pop off a black background!! I used Deep Water, Fire Engine and Sunshine Colour Shimmer Sprays sprayed directly onto the background over the gesso. I started with the Sunshine, then the Fire Engine, then the Deep Water.

My Deep Water gave me a little trouble – it left not only a fine mist but also bigger splatters – which, really, when you think about it, is perfect!! So to add to that look I grabbed my fave brush – it’s a round #20, dunked it into the spray bottles of the Sunshine and the Fire Engine and splattered away to my hearts content!

I left my background to dry overnight and came back the next day and started working on my paper layers. I used mostly scraps, grabbed some Charms Creations DIY embellishments and some flair.

Happy with the general placement I added colour to my DIY embellies using Singin’ The Blues Colour Shimmer Pot. If you don’t have the pot you can, of course, use a brush and Colour Shimmer Spray for a similar effect.

I love the way these turned out!! The beautiful blue colour and all the gorgeous shimmer, oh la la!! Here are the 3 pieces all coloured up, swoon!!

While hunting through my box of chippy I came across my title piece – this “cherish” word that I had previously embossed (you can see lots of embossing fun including my title on this post!) using Tangereen Dream Colour Embossing Powder and LOVED the pop that this colour brought to the page so decided I needed to add a couple more small pops of the Tangereen Dream so embossed 3 veneer hearts with 2 coats each.

Time to assemble all the bits and hence, now it is a rainbow explosion lol

A few close ups

It’s so hard to capture just how pretty and shimmery those fabric embellies are but seriously, swoon!

I hope you have enjoyed my post today and we would love to see your takes on this fun challenge this month. Just head over to the FB group and pop your take into the album for a voucher to buy more Colour Blast goodies, and let’s face it, who doesn’t love more free goodies?!

Have a fantastic (messy) scrappy day and see you again later in the month!

{Colour Blast} Shine ~ An Art Journal Page

Hey, hey scrappy friends!! Today I’m here with you sharing my latest DT make for Colour Blast Australia.

Here’s a little sneaky peek I shared on my FB page the other day

And this page was inspired by this month’s challenge and a very cute kit I won from an Aussie company, Kit The Habit.

So, feathers!! I love feathers and was so excited when I received this little kit in the mail with all of those gorgeous texture-y feathers, swoon!

Onto the step by steps!

First up I used a fun feather stencil by Flutterby Designs paired with the gorgeous Sienna Colour Paste and just applied a small amount in a small area on my page in my art journal.

While that dried I decided to colour my fabric doily using the beautiful Just Blue Colour Shimmer Spray.

I left that mostly to air dry (I did get a little impatient!!) and then added some colour using my Just Blue Colour Shimmer Spray. I simply sprayed right onto the page and then lifted and turned it to get the colour to move all around my stencilling.

I did air dry that and when it was done I did some splatters using Sienna and Just Blue Colour Shimmer Cubes. I also did some splatters with Roadbase Colour Spray.

Lastly I added a little bit of colour to a few flowers using a paint brush and my Sienna Colour Shimmer Spray.

When that was all dry I added all my bits on and LOVE the finished design.

Again, another “not typical for me” page but I am so loving doing different things and playing with products!!

You still have almost the whole month to get your groove on and play with your products, just make sure you incorporate feathers in some way!!

Happy scrapping and I’ll see you again soon!

{Colour Blast} Beautiful ~ A Scrapbook Page

Hey, hey scrappy friends!! It’s Melinda here with you today sharing not only my latest DT make but also my take on the awesome October challenge!

Here’s a bit of a sneaky peek and a little secret, this page is NOTHING like what I thought I was going to make!! But I love it!

So, if you have missed it here is the October challenge….TRIANGLES! I don’t know why but I just LOVE triangles so was very excited when I saw this challenge this month!

However, that is enough chatter and here are my step-by-steps

I chose a cut file and cut that on my cameo and then I chose the ephemera packs and 1 piece of patterned paper I was going to use and trimmed up my cut file – those flowers just were not going to work!

From the patterned paper I picked the colours I wanted to use and not knowing exactly where this page was going I grabbed the Colour Shimmer Spray, the Colour Paste and the Colour Shimmer Pots in the colours I wanted to use – Blush, Punch and Deep Water. And at the last minute, Steel.

With my colours chosen and the cut file and photo ready to go I grabbed my White Heavy Gesso and used my fingers to spread a thin layer across the page where I knew I wanted my page design. I let that dry naturally which did not take long since the layer was so thin.

Time to add some more colour!! I started with the lightest colour – Blush – Colour Shimmer Cube, grabbed a paint brush and some packaging and added some colour randomly to my back ground. I ended up just using a wet brush and moved the colour around using that and the packaging together to get the look I was after.

I repeated the same process with Punch – again using a Colour Shimmer Cube, let that dry thoroughly and then the same process again with Deep Water – this time using my Colour Shimmer Spray (I haven’t been able to get my hands on the Colour Shimmer Cube yet!!! Argh!!). I let the Deep Water dry naturally – it was dinner time – and was super happy with the dried result.

Next up some splatters – again I used the 3 matching colours in the same products and a paint brush. I added Blush and Punch splatters to the pink areas and Deep Water to the blue-y areas. At the last minute I decided to sprinkle some Steel Colour Shimmer Cube around as well just to bring that silvery colour to the page.

I surprised myself and stopped here with the colour – I really loved how it was looking and didn’t want to go over the top! I added in some shadows to the cut file with a black water colour pencil.

Some foam to mount my cut file that had been backed with the paper and my photo. Oh and some silver stitching along the triangles. A couple of very small embellishments and my page was done!

I am super pleased with how this came together and since it is another wedding photo I haven’t added a date or any journalling as I just wanted to scrap this photo!!

Here are a few close ups!

Check out the shimmer in these photo’s, oh la la!!

You still have about 10 days to get your entries in for the October challenge – just enter them in this album on the FB page – and your chance to win a voucher to spend on some fun Colour Blast goodies so make some time to play!!

You can also check out my whole process on the YT channel but here is the link to watch it right now, in your browser!

Until next time, happy scrapping!!

Just Adorable ~ A Travellers Notebook Insert

Hey, hey, hey!! I am right on time this month with my K+ share, haha! The end of the month is here already and I managed to sneak in at the last minute as usual!!

Here is the challenge for this month and I struggled for most of the month coming up with an idea but then suddenly, boom it hit me today!!

Here is my take on the September challenge

I decided when I purchased (another!!) a pocket page notebook from The Stamp Spot that I would dedicate it to our Snapchat photos! So many silly, fun photo’s and honestly, how many 12×12 pages can one make with them?!? This is my very first layout in the PPN and I am super happy with it!

Here are a couple of close ups!

I kept it pretty simple; kraft background, gold (in the form of Bling Colour Paste and Colour Shimmer Spray by Colour Blast), black and a little wood veneer and really love how it came out in the end!

There is a process video for this little page as well, just click play in the box below and voila!!

Thanks so much for stopping by and happy scrapping!

{ScrappingClearly} Wander and Take It In ~ A Scrapbook page

Hello scrappy friends!! I’m here with you today sharing my latest DT make for ScrappingClearly!

For today’s post I was really inspired by this months sketch challenge, once again created by the very talented Peg! If you have yet to see it here it is

And here is my creation

I have used the very fun Citrus Bliss collection available ON SALE in store now and I will provide links at the end of my post!

I really stuck to the sketch as much as possible for this one – I really loved all those layers behind and next to the photo’s.

It took me a while to find the “right” photos for this page but after a bit of digging I found these 2 from our Honeymoon back in 2008 – a good size and the “right” orientation for the sketch!

I was busting to get these Thickers out and used so after some struggle getting the wording correct for the story I wanted to tell I got the Wander and the Take It In phrase on the page!

Paired, of course with some gorgeous Colour Blast Sienna in both the Colour Paste and Colour Shimmer Spray.

If you would like to see my whole process just click on the play button below and you can watch my process video – and make sure you hit the subscribe button so you never miss any shares on the channel!

I hope I have given you some last minute inspiration to play along with the sketch this month, make sure if you do you add it to the correct album over on the ScrappingClearly FB group to be in the draw to win a voucher to the ScrappingClearly store!!

That’s it for me for today, thanks so much for stopping by!

Until next time, happy scrapping!

{Colour Blast} Little Delights 4th July

Hey there scrappy friends! Today I’m sharing a page I created for Colour Blast using 4 colours and only 2 product types! I had lots of fun putting this together and am happy with how it came out!

First up I chose my colours to go with the ephemera/stickers etc I had picked for this page

Colour Pastes (from top to bottom)
Singin’ The Blues, Blush, Apple of My Eye and Sienna
Colour Shimmer Sprays (from left to right)
Sienna, Apple of My Eye, Blush and Singin The Blues

Seriously, if you haven’t yet seen the new Sienna, you MUST get some, it is stunning!!

Next up I grabbed a 12×12 stencil and randomly sprayed my 4 mists all over the stencil.

Before I lifted the stencil off I grabbed a second sheet of white cardstock and pressed that down onto the top of the stencil to get the negative to use on another page – great way to save mist and to get a head start on another background!

Next up, after that was thoroughly dried, I grabbed a stencil, my palette knife and my Colour Pastes and applied the stencil over the top of the coloured background. I applied the Sienna over the Sienna Shimmer Spray, the Blush over the Blush Shimmer Spray and so on….

Look at that pretty shimmer from the spray, swoon!!

Next up I decided I needed some splatters, so again, with each colour on top of the same colour, I used the nozzle of the bottle and applied lots of mist splatters.

I set this aside to air dry and when it was all done I grabbed my photo and embellishments and stuck it all down.

Oh, how I love you Apple of My Eye!!

I so totally love the way this page together and love my subject matter, because, sometimes a donut and coffee is really the only answer 😉

Just a side note, if you have been watching new collections come out then you will  notice there is alot of copper metallics coming out/already available and honestly, Sienna is a PERFECT match!!

If you would like to see my process come together it is available on the Colour Blast YT channel and my own or you can simply click “play” below and it will play right here, in your browser!!

Thank you, as always, for stopping by. I do love playing with the gorgeous Colour Blast goodies and sharing and also seeing what you create from our DT shares!! Have a fantastic, scrappy day!

{Colour Blast} Zoom Zoom

Hi, hi Colour Blast fans, Melinda here with you today sharing a fun page I created about our family car!

Have you ever experimented with the Colour Shimmer products on black cardstock?!? If you haven’t you so should, the colours look amazing and so bright and fun!

Here is the page I created

And here are my step-by-steps

First up, a stencil and 4 colours of the gorgeous Colour Pastes – I’ve used Steel, Sunshine, Tangereen Dream and Apple of My Eye. I have used my pallet knife and randomly applied colour through the stencil until I was happy with the way it was looking.

While that was still wet (because I am impatient 😉 ) I grabbed the matching Colour Shimmer Sprays (again Steel, Sunshine, Tangereen Dream and Apple of My Eye) and did some sprinkles with the nozzle from the bottle. I don’t know what happened to my “in progress” photo but below you can see the beautiful shimmer and colour that the droplets have left. Totally, swoon worthy!

I popped my background aside and got to work on my “layers”. Now, after lots of mucking around and pulling out different things I decided with all that colour in the background less was more. So, I very simply grabbed some black and white tissue paper to back my photo and this die cut I have had sitting on my desk for months. It was cut in white and the white was too stark so I grabbed my Steel Colour Shimmer Spray and paint brush and applied a couple of quick coats.

I love how this looks!

I really didn’t think that the page needed too much more added with all of that bright colour in the background so I found a couple of black and white tabs and a black and white flair – which I added a little nest of silver thread behind and added some dimension and stuck my layers down.

My journalling came next, down the 2 sides of the page with a white paint pen and with a couple of doodled borders on the top and bottom edges.

At this point I decided some white splatters would finish it off nicely so I mixed together some white heavy gesso and water, grabbed a paint brush, covered my photo and flicked watered down gesso around. Love how this tied it all together!

Here again is my completed project

And below is my You Tube process video if you’d like to see my page come together!

Thanks, as always for stopping by and until next time, happy scrapping!

{Colour Blast} Can’t Wait to Meet You! ~ A Scrapbook Layout

Hi there scrappy friends!! I’m with you today sharing a page I created without using any patterned paper for Colour Blast Australia!!

I will start off straight away by saying that this is not my ultrasound! The journalling does explain that this is indeed my future niece or nephew!

I started this page with one idea in my head and decided as I was going that I just didn’t love where it was going! You can see in the video below my process and where the layout changes directions!

And here are my step-by-steps!

First up, I decided to grab a stencil and some Colour Pastes. I have used the pastes one at a time and applied randomly all over the stencil (onto vellum) with some parts of the paste thicker than others and left that over night to dry.

The next day when I came back to my dried mixed media circles I started fussy cutting the circles. As a last minute decision I decided to leave some of the wonky edges for something a little different.

I started to lay the circles and my photo onto my page and at this point I decided that the circles were too big and I just wasn’t loving it!! Instead of starting all over I decided to grab some punches, some dies and my scissors and cut a bunch of different sized hearts and felt much happier with that decision!

Next to set to work on my background. A very quick, light coat of White Heavy Gesso to the parts of the page where I knew I wanted to add some extra colour.

Then comes one of my most fave products at the moment – Colour Shimmer Pots!! For this page I have used the Just Blue (Oh my, I love, love, love this colour!!) as I wanted a contrast but also not an opposite end of the colour wheel contrast! I activated with a little water and just painted the colour on without too much thought other than the basic idea of where I wanted the focus. I did dry this off a little with my heat tool but first I soaked up a lot of the water from the top of the page.

After that was dried I pulled out my Singin The Blues Colour Shimmer Spray and did a couple of spritzes for a bit of colour variation and again left that to dry.

I wanted to bring in some of the green also so did a few squirts of the Apple Of My Eye Colour Shimmer Spray as well and let that dry thoroughly.

Time for splatters! I have very simply used the nozzle from each of the bottles of Colour Shimmer Spray in Bling, Just Blue, Singin The Blues and Apple of My Eye and left that to dry.

While that was drying I pulled out my chipboard pieces and decided to do a multi colour emboss! First up I have used Deep Water Embossing Powder.

After that was dried and cooled I added Bling embossing powder and heat set that too. These 2 colours mix beautifully together while still being able to see the 2 different colours. I love this look!

Time to pull it all together and here is the end design again for you!

I love the pops of all those different colours and how beautifully they all sit together on the page!

Oh, and I forgot, I added a little stamping behind the chipboard! I meant to do that BEFORE I stuck down the chipboard but forgot! Thankfully I had only adhered it with staples where the photo was going to be so it was easy enough to lift the chippy – perhaps you will remember sooner 😉 I have used a grey (because I thought I had grabbed black until I stamped!) archival ink and love the extra detail it adds!

I also REALLY love the extra dimension that the vellum gives. When the hearts were stuck down only in the middle the edges all lifted up which was a happy surprise!

And one last photo, this is the title area! I love how those hearts look and those alphas match perfectly with the colours I have chosen!

So, how will you take this fun technique and do YOUR thing with it? We would love to see so please make sure you stop by the FB group and share your own creations with us!

Also, I am making my way over to Brisbane for the Scrapbooking Expo in a couple of days and to say I am excited would most surely be the understatement of the year!! I may be helping out on the Colour Blast stand (woohoo!!) or you may see me wandering around, either way please head over to the CB stand and say hi!!

Whatever your scrappy plans are make sure you have fun and get a little messy 😉

Until next time,

Melinda
