{Colour Blast} Boys. Sheesh ~ A Scrapbook Layout

Hey hey and welcome to the blog on this Saturday morning!!
I hope you have some fun scrappy plans for the weekend, I’m pretty sure I do 😉

Have you seen this months challenge?! It’s all about texture! To be honest, I struggled somewhat with what textures I would use and how I would incorporate them into my project. I started digging through my photos and this one of me and my baby inspired me and then I came up with my main idea – hand stitching!! Here’s a peek at my finished stitched centre piece.

And a refresher of the challenge

Here is my process video if you’d like to see my page come together

My first step was coming up with my title which I knew I wanted to hand stitch. When I worked out what I was hand stitching I came up with the “sheesh” in my title knowing I had these leatherette alphas in my stash. More texture!

I added some colour to my title but made my own colour to match the collection I was using better. The Indigo Colour Spray was way too purple for what I was hoping for and the Caribbean was way too bright so I sprayed some Indigo Colour Spray onto my desk and mixed in some Caribbean. The quantities were about 6 (Indigo) to 1 (Caribbean). I tested on some scrap white card stock. And also thought I’d make it sparkly by adding a quick coat of Snow White Colour Shimmer Spray, perfect way to add shimmer without changing the base colour!

I used a paint brush and just painted inside the lines of the word my cameo had sketched.

When that was dry I added splatters in the same blue I created and then also added more splatters to match the collection I was using. I’ve used Blush, Sunshine, Envy and Stormy Weather Colour Shimmer Spray’s.

After that was thoroughly dried I poked all the holes for my stitching, put on my current fave TV show and got stitching!

A few layers behind my photo including some patterned paper that had what looked like brush strokes which I fussy cut for more texture. I also added some gold star shaped punchinella as the very back layer behind my photo.

Before I stuck that down I decided I wanted some extra texture behind the photo on the white cardstock so pulled out my Black Heavy Gesso and an old store card and added in some messy lines around the 4 corners where my photo was going to tie in the black stitching.

More texture with some puffy stickers which I ended up stitching through with gold thread on my sewing machine.

I added my journalling and also a strip of paper at the top of the page and my page was done!!

Head over here to load up your take on the March Challenge in the Colour Blast Creative Corner Facebook Group and you could win a $30 voucher to spend in the Colour Blast store!!

Until next time, happy scrapping!

{ScrappingClearly} Sand Angels

Hello there scrappy friends! Today I’m here to share my take on the very awesome June 2017 sketch challenge for ScrappingClearly.

A quick refresher

And here is my interpretation

I’ve stayed pretty true to the sketch this month, I really loved it!

Before I did anything I applied a really thin, quick coat of white gesso in the title area and the main photo cluster area on this Cocoa Vanilla Studio, Free Spirit, “Word Jumble” background paper.

After that dried I worked on my title. Whenever I hand stitch I like to work first on the stitching. If your interested, the font is called Magle Script and I got it free from Dafont.com . I have used some ombre embroidery floss from my stash and really love all those shades of blue and that scripty font paired with that beautiful minty green/teal-y acetate alpha by Heidi Swapp.

Of course some mixed media in the background and today I have used the smooshing technique and some of the beautiful Tim Holtz Distress Oxide ink in Faded Jeans to start with. I applied a couple of coats and made sure to dry thoroughly between applications so to get the beautiful layered effect these inks are fabulous for!

I wanted some variation in the blue so I also grabbed some of my Colour Shimmer Dust by Colour Blast in Navy and again did the smooshing technique. After that was dried I added splatters using both products and 2 different paintbrushes.

My next layer was some more tone on tone – this time the Distress Oxide ink with this stamp by Darkroom Door. After inking the stamp I applied a really quick light spritz of water and love how the ink changes!

I also wanted to bring in some of the minty green colour from the title so I grabbed my Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide ink and this Heidi Swapp stamp in the Magnolia Jane collection and applied a few different words and LOVE how this turned out and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE how the colours don’t mix together but instead sit on top of one another.

I decided that I wanted that darker blue colour all around the page so pulled that darker blue skyline paper from the Shimelle Star Shine 12×12 paper pad and gutted it. I added couple of paper layers behind my photo using this paper by Cocoa Vanilla Studios and part of the paper in the background.

I added a few ephemera pieces from the Shimelle Star Shine collection, a couple of the gorgeous clear acrylic clouds, my journalling and of course the date stamp.

I did make a process video for this one and you can see that below, just click the big play button 😉

As you can see I have used a bunch of different suppliers and ranges to create this page and I love how it came together in the end!

You have the whole month of June to play along so please load up your challenge to the correct album in the ScrappingClearly FB group for your chance to win a store voucher!!

Until next time, happy scrapping!!

{ScrappingClearly} Week One 2017 – February Mood Board Inspiration

Hi there scrappy friends! I’m here with you today sharing my take on the gorgeous ScrappingClearly February 2017 mood board, once again designed my very talented fellow DT member Peg Hewitt!

Here is the board again if you have not seen it!

All about the lovey stuff, awwww! I did avoid the purple – no surprises there but I loved the softness of the pink and the yellow. The picture in the top left reminded me of Summer and I just love that beautiful burst of sunlight in the heart!

I was sent the gorgeous Cocoa Vanilla Studios range called Free Spirit and I immediately thought it was a great match! I got to cutting up the papers and putting our first week of 2017 together for our Project Life album!

Here is the completed double page spread

Sorry about the glare, it is a bit tricky for me to photograph both sides together. But here they are separately

Left side

Right side
And if you wish to see this come together just click on the play button below to watch my YT process video!

I decided to use the WRMK pink embroidery floss also included in my kit to create some extra interest on 3 of the cards

This is our title card for the week

I loved how the word Summer looked in the font I chose to embroider with

And this photo is an absolute fave of mine! Love this memory – seeing the sheer joy and pleasure on my boy’s face just made my day! Oh, and in case it needs clarifying, Mia is the horses name 😉

Also, on those 3 cards I brought in a little extra something using some Studio Calico gold sequins and some Ranger Flamingo Liquid Pearls (which I had never used before!) in a little cluster.

I have used my WRMK typewriter for all of the journalling and learnt that when using it, 1 layer of cardstock is just enough. If you put through 2 layers, it’s a little trickier 😉

Thanks so much for stopping by today and make sure you get your take in for the gorgeous mood board challenge for this month over here in the FB group!

Happy scrapping!
Melinda

{ScrappingClearly DT} Top Nine

Hello there fellow ScrappingClearly fans, I’m here with you today sharing another page I have made using my most favourite collection of all time. EVER. The Starshine collection designed by Shimelle.

This layout started as a little idea that popped into my head one night while I was trying to sleep (does that happen to anyone else?!) and involved the stitching and a BIG title. My idea kinda evolved and changed during the making but I am super happy with how it all came together in the end!!

If you would like to watch my process you can find my process video here and read on for more details and close ups!

You can see the stitching I have done on the background (I used this paper and mounted on this paper) using a needle and thread and I have actually not stitched behind where the photo is. I used this tutorial to get my cameo to do all the hard work of making the holes for me and it made the process a) quicker and b) the holes were that tiny bit bigger and easier to sew through!

After the stitching was done I went in with some similar colours of Colour Blast sprays (bubblegum, sunset, saffron and lagoon) and did droplets all across the area where I knew I wanted most of the embellishments.

The photograph I decided to scrap was one that Instagram shared with me early this year and it is my Top 9 photos of 2015. I have included a little pull out card from this cut apart sheet behind the photo with matching number stickers from the accent and phrase stickers from the collection and a little blurb about each photo.

I have used the awesomely cool thickers in this collection for the title, I love all the different colours in it and I love that font, it’s so fun!

That floral paper is one of my most fave from the collection and I HAD to fussy cut some of the flowers to use as embellishments and love how it looks!

I have secretly been hoarding those gorgeous acrylic shapes but figured it was time to get them on a page so I have used the butterfly, the word shine and both hearts.

At the very end I did a few little sprinkles using the Colour Blast Colour Spray in Roadbase (flat black colour).

If you have any questions or comments please feel free to leave a comment and I will get back to you ASAP!!

Thanks again so much for taking the time to stop by and happy scrapping!

{Scrappingclearly DT} First Kiss

Hi there and welcome to my blog this Monday morning!! Today I’m here with you with another share using the GORGEOUS Maggie Holmes Bloom collection and another wedding layout for Scrappingclearly!

Here is the complete page

And as you can see I have put alot of time into the title with that hand stitching. I am so loving it at the moment! If you head over here you can see my full process in my process video 🙂

After I had hand stitched my title I went in with a stencil and some of the awesome Faber-Castell Glass Bead Glitter Gel mixed with one of the fun colour powders from Colour Blast for a little added colour and texture.

Here are some details shots

The hand stitched title, I really love how this turned out!! If you haven’t tried it and love the look it is SO worth the time and effort and makes the rest of the page come together pretty easily, especially when you have so many pretty things to work with 😉

As part of the Bloom collection there were these stunning layered/fringed hearts and for some reason I never got my hands on any but as I mentioned in another post I did I did have HEAPS of fun making my own!! Again, you can see my whole process for that in my video 🙂

But a quick run down of how to:
Find a big-ish heart (or any shape really!!) die or punch – obviously, I used a heart (die). I used one of the papers from the 6×6 paper pad as my base layer thinking you would see more than you actually do, oops!! But then I grabbed a few off cuts and cut a few strips from some of the other papers in the 6×6 pad. I have also incorporated some of the washi strips from the washi booklet and some of my offcuts of that BEAUTIFUL gold foiled vellum piece from the collection. I used my fringing scissors – Kylie has some in store here – and fringed the edges. I went in with some wet glue and stuck all my layers down in a way I was happy then when that was all dry I took the whole piece to my sewing machine for that extra stitched detail. These are so, so pretty!

A close up of more of the detail around the photo. A pink doily from my stash, some of the leaves from the Bloom ephemera pack and again, more of those gorgeous butterflies cut from the Flutter paper

And onto the top cluster! A couple more pieces from the ephemera pack, some crotchet thread from my stash and another fussy cut butterfly – this one from the 6×6 version of the paper.

As you can see, there is some stamping in a couple of places and a very light sprinkling of Roadbase Colour Blast Colour Spray and also some of the Colour Blast powder mixed with water – the same colour I did the stencilling in.

I ended up using this paper to mount the whole page on, I really liked the definition the black brought to the edges of the page.

Thanks so much for stopping by today and I hope I have inspired you to have a play with some of your own pretty papers and embellishments to get some precious memories recorded!

Happy Scrapping!

INSD fun!

Hi there!

Super quick share today as Cocoa Vanilla Studio are having a super fun competition over on their blog and all one has to do to enter is share their favourite creation that was made for INSD!!

I am still plugging away at a few challenges but I already know that this will be very high on the list of my faves for this weekend if it isn’t the top!!

Funnily enough too I have used product from the Made of Awesome range I have in my stash, which sadly, is depleting!! And just as a side note, I made this page before I saw CVS had this little competition going!

Here is my completed page and a couple of close ups!

Thanks so much for the chance Zoe! What an awesome prize!

I hope you have liked my page and I will just quickly mention that was a labour of love!! That stitching took me a 1 1/2 hour episode of Orange is the New Black, an episode of The 100 and 1 1/2 episodes of The Vampire Diaries to complete!! But, I LOVE the finished page!

Happy scrapping!
