{ScrappingClearly} Some quick cards

Hi there and welcome to my blog this Easter Monday!

I hope the Easter Bunny was good to you and that you are enjoying a long weekend with your loved ones! I’m happy to report, our Bunny Trap, once again failed yesterday!! Though the boys had fun setting it up, the Bunny was kind enough to leave chocolate, pj’s and new slippers for them!!

Today I have some cards that I created using the Kasier Craft Ooh La La collection.

I have used a couple of off cuts from a couple of my 12×12 papers as the card fronts – cut to size – but you could very easily change it up and use the 6 1/2′ x 6 1/2″ paper pad. And then grabbed the collectable pack, the 12×12 sticker sheet and the Kaiser mini blooms in honey and sage. I’ve also used some of the very pretty Cantaloupe Liquid Pearls on some of the butterfly centres for a little extra touch 🙂

In the bottom right corner I have used one of the left over triangles from this project. I have pulled a few pieces from the collectables pack and stuck 3 of the sage flowers along with 2 of the sentiment stickers from the 12×12 sticker sheet.

I started with some Whipped Spackle and a stencil from my stash for some added detail in the background then when that was dry I grabbed a few pieces from the collectables pack and voila, card #2 done!

For this one I started with one of the 12″ border stickers from the sticker sheet and then added lots of pieces from the collectables pack. And a final touch, 3 of the honey mini paper blooms.

And finally, card #4, I started with the big floral piece from the sticker sheet which I trimmed in half and stuck down. A couple of butterflies, one is a sticker and the other is from the collectables pack. Some of the word sticker strips and the final touch of Liquid Pearls down the centre of the 2 butterflies.

4 cards done and dusted in under and hour – I did record the process but apparently my phone had other ideas and didn’t actually record anything!! Technology, hey?!

Anyways, cards are a quick, easy way to use up some left overs and especially some of those bigger paper offcuts that you may otherwise be unsure what you are going to do with. Always good to have a few in your stash!

I hope you are enjoying the long weekend and maybe even getting in some scrappy time!!

{ScrappingClearly} Home Sweet Home

Hey there ScrappingClearly fans, Melinda here with you today sharing a page I made using this month’s mood board as inspiration.

In case you haven’t yet seen it, here it is

And here is my take on it

I have used the Kaiser Craft Oh La La collection for this and was really inspired by a chat I had had with my Mother In Law about quilting and came up with the idea of the triangles into the chevron design!

I modernised the whole patchwork effect with a little mixed media – namely I grabbed the Cantaloupe Liquid Pearls Kylie sent me in my last kit, added that to a little packaging and then spritzed with water – viola! Watercolour in a beautiful orange-y/gold tone to go perfectly with the mood board! I also added in a few very subtle sprinkles of colour with the Art Anthology Colour Spray in Avocado.

Today being the 1st of the month gives you plenty of time to get your own entries in for both this challenge and the sketch challenge for April – though who can seriously believe it is April already?!

Head over here to the FB group for the challenge albums and to see what everyone else is busy working on!

I do have a process video for this page – if it doesn’t load straight away, please come back and try again – I kinda got my dates mixed up for this project – oopsies!!

Anyways, I’ll leave you with a couple of close ups and a product list, if you have any questions, please dont hesitate to ask!

Supply List:

Kaiser Craft Ooh La La Collection Pack – there are none left in stock BUT there is the 6 1/2 x 6 1/2″ paper pad which would work perfectly as well
Kaiser Craft Ooh La La Bits and Pieces Pack
Cantaloupe Liquid Pearls
Art Anthology Colourations Colour Spray – Avocado

Thanks, as always for stopping by and happy scrapping! I hope April is a super productive scrappy month for you all!

{ScrappingClearly} The Best Things ~ April Mood Board Challenge

Hi scrappy friends, Melinda here with you today sharing my take on the fun April sketch challenge, once again designed by the very talented Peg!

Here it is if you haven’t seen it yet

And here is my take on it

And you can watch my process on the link below – just press the play button!

I have used the Kaiser Craft Ooh La La collection pack for this and mostly just the Oui Oiu floral paper (I fussy cut the florals from it) and the Belle paper.

I have a little of the packaging technique in the background with the Avocado Art Anthology spray and applied a few splatters in Navy Colour Shimmer Dust.

The finishing touches were a few of my left over triangles from my last project – as photo corners and also as corners on the top left and bottom right of the page.

So, make sure you get your entries in for this months challenges, you still have most of the month to get them done! Head over here to the FB group to upload your entries. We love to see the way you guys interpret the challenges!!

Thanks, as always for stopping by and until next time, happy scrapping!

Love makes a house a home

Hi there today I’m sharing the acrylic album I put together for Scrappingclearly!

So, as I shared in my last 2 posts for them I was feeling intimidated by the Time Machine collection by Kaisercraft, add in my house shaped acrylic album and yikes, intimidated doesn’t begin to cover it! I don’t really do mini’s and the pages are CLEAR!! Haha! But, when I finally found my big girl pants I dived into it and LOVE the finished album! Like, seriously, love!

I will start by sharing the completed album then take you through page by page, grab a cuppa and I hope you enjoy!

The idea I had for my album was showing the growth of my little family from when hubby and I got married in 2008 up until the present, hence the title “Love makes a house a home.”

Here is the album in all its completed glory

And a close up of the detail of the cover.

I started this page with a stencil and texture paste from stash which I simply added some teal colourshine to. I left that to dry and when it was I started pulling pieces from my offcuts, the collectables pack and the sticker sheet. The “love” was cut using my big shot and a die from my stash and I added a coat of glossy accents just as a little extra finishing touch.

The first page is, of course, hubby and I. About a year after we got married, about a month before we found out we were going to be a family of 3.

For this page I just went with the stencilling from the previous page as my base, added a rub on from the kaisercraft journal spots rub ons, a couple of scraps of papers, some die cuts and stickers. I used a coat of glossy accents on the “two” tile stickers as well.

Next is the 1st addition to our family, our 1st fur baby, Zeus.

For the base of this page I used the Time Machine stamp set with both teal and brown permanent inks. I got impatient, I was FINALLY in the groove of making this album, so used some clear embossing powder and my heat tool to set the ink so I could keep working!! More paper layers, die cuts and stickers. I have also fussy cut a frame from this Hambly screen prints page and tucked that behind the layers. And to keep the flow I added some glossy accents again to the tile letters.

And here are the 2 pages side by side, I really love how you can see all the bits and pieces peeking through!

The next page is our very 1st photo of the 3 of us as a family. Not the most flattering but I love this photo and all it represents to me.

Again, I started with the front design on the page, I was really loving the see through element by now!! More paper layers, die cuts and stickers. And glossy accents on tile alphas!

The next page is the addition of our youngest child. Again, not the most flattering photo but it’s the 1st of us as a family of 4 and I love it!

This time I started with that same Hambly print but this time cut to the whole house shape. I adhered all my layers to the screen print so when it came time to stick I knew where I’d be able to hide the adhesive. I did the same steps again with this page, die cuts, papers, stickers and glossy accents.

And here are the 2 pages side by side.

The next page is the addition of our 2nd fur baby, Olaf the Bunny.

The screen print is of course where I started and I knew roughly where I needed to place my layers to cover the adhesive from the front. Firstly, another rub on from the Kaiser journal spots rub ons and then more die cuts, stickers, paper layers and glossy accents completed the page.

And the last page! I started this page with this gorgeous screen print piece cut down from a 12×12 sheet. This is us currently, all 6 of us!

This page doesn’t have many layers to it at all! The gold tile thickers, the 2 photos and the sentiment sticker. Oh, and the tiny tile alphas 🙂

And the last 2 pages next to each other.

This takes us onto the back cover. Nice and simple!

A couple of tags, some of this acetate sheet and that pretty gold tile thicker.

And here is the view of the entire album from the back.

I hope I have inspired you to try something new and perhaps out of your comfort zone. You never know, you may end up with a treasured piece of work!

Happy scrapping!

Always find time for the things that make you happy to feel alive

Hello again!!

So, for my last post for Scrappingclearly I used the Kaisercraft Time Machine Collection Pack and while I still had that out and was working outside of my norm I decided to pull out my beloved copic markers and also my art journal! Now, to say that I love this page would certainly be an understatement! I had SO MUCH FUN pulling all this together and just loved the process!

Here is my completed spread in my journal

And now, my process!

First up I prepped the double page with a coat of gesso – I didn’t really have a finished design in mind but I had already pulled out all of the round elements from the Time Machine Collectables pack so had an idea of colour scheme and the very loose idea of steampunk.

After my gesso dried I laid out all of my pieces from the collectables pack across the 2 pages and used a clear matt medium to stick them all down and also applied a coat over the top to seal them in.

I did “cheat” here and use my heat gun to get it to dry off as my plan was really beginning to come together in my head 🙂

I then grabbed the stamp set from the Time Machine collection and used a selection of the stamps with a brown chalk ink from my stash and also the teal Heidi Swapp ink pad – both are permanent inks and safe to apply wet mediums over the top of when dry. Again, I used my heat tool so I could move onto the next layer. Which was texture paste. I used a cogs stencil and paste from my stash and actually left that to dry for a few hours.

While that was drying I started colouring up my image – which is a digital stamp I purchased from Saturated Canary and printed to fit about 2/3 of the height of my journal page. I decided to go with sepia tones with a pop of gold (on the cogs) and that fun pop of teal. When she was all coloured I up I fussy cut her out. Needless to say, I was totally inspired by the classes I have taken over at Kit and Clowder and cannot recommend Alyce’s classes highly enough!! In fact, she has a whole class on mixed media techniques using this image and it is well worth a look!

Copic colours used are as follows:
Browns/sepia tones: E50, E51, E53, E55, E57 and E59
Teal/aqua: BG11, BG13, BG49 and BG78
Gold: Y11, Y15 and E15

My next step was COLOUR on the pages! I used a super fun and easy technique and literally splashed/threw water all over the pages and then splashed/threw Heidi Swapp colour shine in Tea and Teal all over. When the inks met the water and each other they blend together and give this gorgeous water coloured/mottled effect and I really, really love how it dries. Before it dried I added a few splashed of Gold colour shine and some of that also blended together with the other colours. When that was completely dry I went back in again with the gold and applied bigger splatters.

I got the quote directly from the Time Machine stamp set. I used the tiny tile alphas from the Time Machine collection pack and also these fun gold foiled scrabble style thickers to replicate the quote on my page. I did have to use some hot glue to get the alphas through the centre of the pages to REALLY stick 😉

Once that was all dry my page was completed! This was such a fun way to use up so much of that collectables pack and it was great to make the time to pull out my copics and get messy!

Thanks so much for stopping by and see you soon!

Happy scrapping!

June with Dusty Attic

Hi!

Well, I very recently received my DT pack from Dusty and have had a chance to have a bit of a play with some new products!! Both new to me and new to the store – either way it is FUN!!

I have 3 projects to share with you today and I will start with a notebook I made for a friend who had a birthday late last month.

So, firstly I have coloured up this gorgeous little image from Saturated Canary then I found some papers from my stash that worked with colours I had chosen. I believe they are all Heidi Swapp papers, the one on the cover is from a 12×12 sheet from Vintage Chic (I think) and the other 2 are from a 6×6 paper pad in the Dreamy collection. I have pulled out some some flowers and some fun mini Dusty embellishments to finish it off 🙂

And here is a close up of the digi with the colours I used listed

The copic colours I used are as follows:
Skin: E000, E00, E21, E11, E04 and R20
Hair: E21, E25 and E29
Green: BG90, BG93, BG96 and BG99 Peach: R00, R11, R20, E95 and E04
Shoes: E51, E53, E55 and E57 White: C1, C3
And I used the white molotow paint marker to pop in the pearl detail around the headband.

For the “title” I have used my all time fave Mini ABC Upper alpha which I have coloured using some Lustre Rub-On colours just using my fingertip in the green and then used the bronzey colour by dabbing that around. When I was happy with the way they looked I used some of the Clear Gloss Varnish.

A pebble from the Page Pebbles #8 set which I have coloured the raised bits with a white molotow paint pen and topped with an epoxy dot and added some flowers from my stash.

Here I have used one of the Mini View Finders which I have coloured the same way as the alphas and some Mini Feathers (which I might add are one of my all time fave Dusty chippie pieces!!) that have just been coated with white paint. And again paired those with some flowers from my stash.

And lastly a Mini Banner treated the same way the alphas were.

So, that is my 1st project for the month!

Onto number 2 – Week 17 in our 2015 PL album

Here is the left hand side with a number of Dusty pieces. I have used the Dusty In Colour Denim for all of the chippie pieces in this spread to keep it uniform and help with the flow of the page.

I think this is my most fave piece on the is layout – a heart from the Scribble Hearts set with a coat of the paint and then a coat of the Clear Crackle Varnish.

These 2 pieces are from the Love This, Love That Arrows set, again with a coat of the denim paint.

And onto the right side

Another of the arrows from the Love This, Love That Arrows painted.

Another of my all time fave Dusty pieces – the Teeny Tiny ABC set and an arrow from Heart Arrows #1, all painted again in the denim coloured paint.

And both pages together so you can see the flow 🙂

And onto my 3rd project for the month and I am super happy how this turned out!! I had no idea what exactly I was going to do with this photo after I printed it but when I saw these titles it just worked!!

We all had headed out for a walk on a winter’s afternoon here and I just decided to snap a feet shot – I love them 😉 – and then it didn’t fit into our weekly spread – didn’t really have a story to tell with it – so I decided to use it as a cover page for Part 2 of our PL album 🙂

A coat of white paint to the Cherish Yesterday titles and also the Flutterbies #3.
The titles also got a coat of the clear varnish as well 🙂

And the big butterfly with a label (I will stamp the end date to the album when I get to the end) and some alpha stickers.

That is it for me for this month and make sure you play along with the gorgeous mood board for your chance to win a $100 voucher in the store!!

Happy scrapping!!

Mel
