Always find time for the things that make you happy to feel alive

Hello again!!

So, for my last post for Scrappingclearly I used the Kaisercraft Time Machine Collection Pack and while I still had that out and was working outside of my norm I decided to pull out my beloved copic markers and also my art journal! Now, to say that I love this page would certainly be an understatement! I had SO MUCH FUN pulling all this together and just loved the process!

Here is my completed spread in my journal

And now, my process!

First up I prepped the double page with a coat of gesso – I didn’t really have a finished design in mind but I had already pulled out all of the round elements from the Time Machine Collectables pack so had an idea of colour scheme and the very loose idea of steampunk.

After my gesso dried I laid out all of my pieces from the collectables pack across the 2 pages and used a clear matt medium to stick them all down and also applied a coat over the top to seal them in.

I did “cheat” here and use my heat gun to get it to dry off as my plan was really beginning to come together in my head 🙂

I then grabbed the stamp set from the Time Machine collection and used a selection of the stamps with a brown chalk ink from my stash and also the teal Heidi Swapp ink pad – both are permanent inks and safe to apply wet mediums over the top of when dry. Again, I used my heat tool so I could move onto the next layer. Which was texture paste. I used a cogs stencil and paste from my stash and actually left that to dry for a few hours.

While that was drying I started colouring up my image – which is a digital stamp I purchased from Saturated Canary and printed to fit about 2/3 of the height of my journal page. I decided to go with sepia tones with a pop of gold (on the cogs) and that fun pop of teal. When she was all coloured I up I fussy cut her out. Needless to say, I was totally inspired by the classes I have taken over at Kit and Clowder and cannot recommend Alyce’s classes highly enough!! In fact, she has a whole class on mixed media techniques using this image and it is well worth a look!

Copic colours used are as follows:
Browns/sepia tones: E50, E51, E53, E55, E57 and E59
Teal/aqua: BG11, BG13, BG49 and BG78
Gold: Y11, Y15 and E15

My next step was COLOUR on the pages! I used a super fun and easy technique and literally splashed/threw water all over the pages and then splashed/threw Heidi Swapp colour shine in Tea and Teal all over. When the inks met the water and each other they blend together and give this gorgeous water coloured/mottled effect and I really, really love how it dries. Before it dried I added a few splashed of Gold colour shine and some of that also blended together with the other colours. When that was completely dry I went back in again with the gold and applied bigger splatters.

I got the quote directly from the Time Machine stamp set. I used the tiny tile alphas from the Time Machine collection pack and also these fun gold foiled scrabble style thickers to replicate the quote on my page. I did have to use some hot glue to get the alphas through the centre of the pages to REALLY stick 😉

Once that was all dry my page was completed! This was such a fun way to use up so much of that collectables pack and it was great to make the time to pull out my copics and get messy!

Thanks so much for stopping by and see you soon!

Happy scrapping!

A Creative Journey

Hi there!!

I’ve just dropped in today to share the start of a fun creative circle journal I have signed up to participate in with Scrapping Clearly.

For those of you new to this whole concept (which totally included me right up until about 6 weeks ago!!) a circle journal is an art journal that goes around a group of people (in this case, 12) with or without a theme. My theme is “Advice for a younger you”. I completed the album construction, the front and back covers, the sign in page and also the page with my own advice. My journal is in transit as I speak to the next person in my group who will complete their own version of my theme on the next pages in my album. It will make its way around the whole group and I will receive it back in 12 months time full of beautiful art work – I cant wait to see how it comes home!! Also, I am super excited to play along in everyone else’s journals with everyone else’s theme’s over the coming 12 months!

So, I hope that makes sense and onto the fun stuff!!

Here is the front cover

I actually did my front and back as one piece before I assembled my bag so here is the front and the back together

As I toyed with different ideas for colours/design while I was working on this I heard my little guys (Master 6) little voice in my head saying “rainbow Mummy” so thats what I did!! First a coat of gesso then gelatos in Red, Pink, Orange, Yellow, Green, Teal-ish and Blue – yep, I totally missed the Violet and that was totally on purpose!!

I used some permanent chalk ink in grey to stamp and then to apply through a stencil.

Here is my sign in pages

I got the idea from a couple of other peoples journals (the tags) and from Suse Fish with her “planner pockets” in her scrapbook pages.

A quick coat of gesso again and when that dried I splashed water all over the 2 pages with a paint brush and then splashed all my pink Heidi Swapp colour shines in the same way to give this fun water colour effect. Next was the stamping – I used grey ink with the stamp set from Amy Tan’s Finders Keepers stamp set. When that was all dry I added some black colour shine to some texture paste and applied that through a stencil.

And here are the close ups of the 2 pages

I didn’t take a photo of my tag because I thought I would keep that for the people reading the journal 🙂

And then onto my advise to my younger me

Again, a coat of gesso – I seriously cannot believe how well these brown paper bags stood up to all the water, ink and mists!!

This time I started with some white embossing of those gorgeous Kaiser butterfly and texture stamps. Then I went in with my cheap water colours from spotlight – they have this gorgeous shine to them that I just cant seem to capture on camera. I used some blues and greens and really, really love how these pages came out!

For my embellishments/words I started with one of those gorgeous lace doilies and pulled out a bunch of cameo cuts that I had made both in vellum and in paper using the Dear Lizzy Documentary range! I just love the colours, the words and those florals are just beautiful!

I have a little container on my desk with little bits and pieces that I have been dipping into to get used so I also pulled from that the white and silver arrow and the silver glitter ampersand. Those alphas are one of my all time faves – October Afternoon Mini Market.

I used my scotch quick dry adhesive to attach the doily (after I cut it and the embellishments on it) and then used hot glue to attach everything else!

I seriously love how these pages turned out! Here are a couple of close ups of these last couple of pages

Oh, and my very final touch was adding some splashes of both black and Oceana (I think) colour shine and sticking down a few sequins 🙂

So, thats the last I will see of my journal until this time next year when it makes it way back to me! I hope you have enjoyed seeing this and I will share my progress as journals come and go throughout the year!!

Happy scrapping!

When 2 Become 3

Hi there!!

Just popping in today with a super quick share of a page I created the other day using a fun free silhouette cut file from The Hip Kit Club which you can get here.

I totally got the idea of the cut file like this from this YouTube video by the very talented Raquel Bowman! I love how she has laid out all the hearts on the diagonal across the background and took the XO from the file I used, copied, pasted and resized. As I went I welded each XO to the last one 🙂 Love how this turned out!

I cut the file on gesso’d white cardstock and then sprinkled water all over it with a paintbrush. While the water was still wet I sprayed some Heidi Swapp colour shine in both Navy and Teal onto my craft mat, added a little water to make it runnier and then sprinkled the mist all over the wet cut file. I love the watercolour effect I achieved and that there are still bits of white peeking through all over the file!

I have used papers from the Maggie Holmes Shine collection and also some of the florals from the Open Book collection (a couple of which had been digital files that I have printed and cut also using my Cameo). I added some tiny word stickers from a Tim Holtz sticker book I have and added some silver stitching to each. A tiny bit of journalling and some black Heidi Swapp colour shine as sprinkles to finish the LO off!

Here are a few close ups! I can’t believe that this photo was taken over 6 years ago already – time sure does fly!

That’s it for me for today! I had a heap of fun putting this page together!

Happy scrapping and happy Sunday 🙂

Some fun challenges at Shimelle.com

Hi there

A super quick post to share today with 4 12×12 pages I have created this weekend to play along with the online crop/challenges Shimelle held last weekend on her website!

There was so much inspiration and I so wanted to get all of the challenges done, but, well, life happens and I got 5 done in the 4 pages. There is still 19 hours to link up so perhaps more but time will tell!!

My 1st page is for the “Use the 1st Shimelle collection” and also for the “scrap an older photo” challenge. This photo was taken back in 2012 🙂

The next is for the “Colour blocking” challenge.

I wasn’t really sure what I was doing here but used Shimelle’s LO as inspiration and as a loose sketch. This has way less embellies than I usually use but I am really happy how it turned out – and another memory scrapped!

3rd, this is my fave <3, for the "choose a weekly challenge" challenge. I chose "scrap a selfie" and came up with this page. I love how this page turned out. I love the open "white" space. And personally, I just think it's a pretty page!!

My 4th share is for the “Use 3 photo’s on 1 page” challenge for this week – not a part of the weekend challenges!

Again, my big boy – this time his 6th birthday – which was January 2016 and some rather hilarious faces my sister managed to catch on her phone as I totally forgot to take mine!!

So, that’s it for me for now 🙂 I had so much fun playing along, I’m certain that by now those of you that follow me will notice I really enjoy playing along with challenges!!

Thanks for stopping by and happy scrapping!

I like totally love you

Hello there lovely followers!!

Im here today sharing a LO I made over the last couple of days. I have used predominately Shimelle Laine goodies – I just love her 1st 2 ranges with American Crafts!!

I flipped through my stack of photos to scrap and came across this one of hubby and I pre-wedding.

I started with some texture paste from Dusty Attic and a mini stencil from Heidi Swapp on some watercolour paper. Then 2 Heidi Swapp colour shine colours (sweet cherry and coral) were used with water and I pretty much applied them the same way I would water colour paints behind where the photo was going and the bottom left corner. Some stamping using a clear stamp from Heidi Swapp and some roller date stamps with black archival ink. I added some gold thread behind all the paper layers, stuck them down and then did my sprinkles in black, gold, sweet cherry and gold colour shines.

Next I went with some paper layers from the 1st Shimelle collection (the pink/coral/cream diagonal stripe, the cream/black dot, the other cream/pink/coral paper is actually the paper with all the numbers on it, the green map print and some of the filmstrip paper) and then I pulled a couple of scraps from my scrap box – a floral from Maggie Holmes Open Book and and another that I have no idea of brand or anything!! Oh and the background woodgrain paper that is also part of the layers is from Bella and I picked it up from Spotlight.

I heat embossed my title using a Heidi Swapp stamp and gold embossing powder – my photo did have a little reaction but not enough to stop me using it! You can see it in the close ups!

The 2 is fussy cut from the numbers paper and all the flowers and the tab are from the Shimelle sticker book 🙂

You can see above where my photo bubbled a little!!

So, thanks for stopping by and happy scrapping!!

September (already?!?) with Dusty Attic

Hi hi! I’m here with you today sharing my projects for September for Dusty Attic!! September, really?! How did that happen?

Anyways, I have 2 projects to share this month – a traditional 12×12 LO and a double page spread with a 12×12 and a PL style page for my littlest guys album.

First up my 12×12 LO! I have had this idea in my head for ages now and am so pleased I finally got it done!! I made a collage of some of my favourite photo’s from 2014 for the cover of my 2015 diary and also had the same collage printed as a 6×6 photo for this page.

I have used the Simple Stories Daily Grind range, which I thought was the perfect fit for this type of page!! I got the collection pack so have all the papers and a couple of sticker sheets.

I applied a messy coat of gesso after I stuck some of the papers down and then applied some mist using some plastic packaging and “stamping”. Some stamping with black archival ink, some layers behind my photo, a “flip”, some magnets and of course those gorgeous Dusty pieces which I have applied some versamark ink and gold embossing powder to.

As I mentioned, a “flip” mechanism (simply a piece of scrap cardstock scored in half, the ends trimmed into a “v” shape and then adhered to the layers where it can’t be seen) which holds my journalling and also includes a photograph of my Pop who passed away in December 2014. I have cut a slit in my page protector so that it is easy enough for people to read the journalling when (heck, IF!) they flip through it. I have also hidden some little, very strong magnets in the paper layers so that it all sits nicely when closed.

A close up of the chippy pieces in the top left corner

And the chippy piece that is peeking out from under the photo layers

The chippy pieces I have used are as follows:

2014 Year In Review – DA1092
Mini View Finders – DA1080
Mini Captions #1 – DA1279
Mini Captions #2 – DA1291H

So, onto my other project for this month!

These are the pages for Hunter’s album for March 2015.

As I have mentioned previously I am (slowly!!) working on my boys albums in a month to month format to capture their personalities, quirks and developments. I aim for 1 traditional LO and 1 PL style LO for the month so 2 12×12 pages all up.

Here are both pages together as they sit in the album

I have used the Heidi Swapp September skies PL kit, ephemera and one of the 12×12 sheets of paper.

The left side

I love, love, love how this turned out!!

Firstly I did some work on the background of that paper. I applied a light, messy coat of gesso with my finger then applied the mists and gelato colours I knew I was going to use on the chippy piece (which are Heidi Swapp navy and peacock colour shine and a green gelato from my stash) again using the plastic packaging/stamping technique. Then I did some splatters all around and finally some stamps using a couple of roller date stamps and black archival ink.

I have applied the mists and gelato that I have watered down to use as water colours to that background chippy piece after applying a coat of gesso. A couple of coats of white paint to the title pieces, some ephemera pieces, some of the little squares from the cut apart sheet in the 6×6 paper pad and some enamel dots.

A closer look at the centre of the page where most of the design is

And a close up of the background chippy piece

And the title pieces

I realised after I took the photos that there was no journalling so I have tucked a little shipping tag near the top at the back of the LO which also has some twine so people flipping through can see it’s there.

And the right hand PL side

I didn’t really take any photo’s of the individual pockets but I really LOVE how my title card turned out – simple, yet effective so here you go!!

The chippies pieces I have used are as follows:
Triangle Panel Small – all of the mini triangles have come from this
Mini ABC Upper – DA0861N
Mini ABC Lower – DA0862
Love You Arrows – DA1070O
Mini Captions #5 – DA1308I
Word Pack #6 – DA1187

That’s it for me for today but make sure you pull out your chippy and play along with the (yet another!!) gorgeous inspiration board for your chance at a $100 Dusty Attic voucher!!!

Thanks so much for stopping by and happy scrapping!!

August with Dusty Attic

Hello Dusty fans, I’m here with you today sharing my normal PL spread and also an art journal cover that I created using a bunch of Dusty products! Something fun and different for me!!

First up is the art journal cover. I started off with a canson journal and removed the cover from the binding, picked out all my chippy pieces and applied a couple of coats of gesso to the cover and only 1 to the chippy pieces. I have used the Tea, blush, primrose and tiny bit of the navy and white colour shine to colour up all the pieces and the covers. I also added some cheesecloth which I used the colourshine to colour and some tiny beads I found eBay.

I’ve gotta say, I’m so happy with how it turned out – and a bit chuffed with myself, this has been my 1st real unguided effort with mixed media!!

I decided to use a title on the cover and picked this piece from the Word Pack #10 pack as my craft room and playing is my escape.

The little butterfly is from Mini Butterfly and the circle frame is from the String Frames Small set which I have cut the side off.

This big butterfly is from Flutterbies 3Pk – just love the detail on it!!

The lattice in the top corner is part of the Marrakesh Trellis Small and the butterflies are from Flutterbies #3.

And just a shot of the back which I used the same stencil on and the same colour shine colours.

So, my 2nd project for the month is our Week 29 in our 2015 Project Life album. I have used a mixture of the Heidi Swapp Dreamy 6×6 paper pad, Dreamy PL kit and some of the Gold Foil value kit. And also added in a bunch of Dusty goodies and some of the ephemera from the Dreamy collection.

All of my chippy pieces were painted white with the Dusty In Colour Alabaster. The 2 aqua-ish pieces had a coat of Dusty In Colour Oceania mixed with some Dusty In Colour Capri with a little water added. After all the paint was dried I applied some of the gorgeous Dusty In Colour Vintage Gold with a dry paint brush – it was really hard to photograph on the white but you can really see it on the aqua-ish pieces!

This piece was a piece that the very talented boss-lady designed for those of us lucky enough to attend the DA July retreat. This piece was where my whole page design started!!

Dusty products used:

Make sure you join in the fun challenge for your chance to win $100 worth of chippy!! Look at this gorgeous inspiration board!!

We also have another awesome little competition happening with the prize being a pack of some of the brand new texture paste and stencils designed by Jen! Just head over to the Facebook page and follow the instructions on the pinned post!! Here is the awesome prize pack!!

So, that’s it for me for this month!! Happy scrapping!!

There is Always Time For Fun

Hi hi!!

Just popped in quickly today to share the 3rd of the 3 layouts I created using the prompts from my little boxes 🙂

The prompts I pulled were 12×12 layout, machine stitching, die cuts, plastic stamping, stencils, mists and a collection kit.

Another  layout for our wedding album

So, the machine stitching, die cuts and plastic stamping are pretty obvious!! I used the mists to colour the heart die cuts and have also added the same colour SU marker’s to the clear matte gel paste I used for the stencil work. The collection kit I used was the only whole unopened collection kit I own which is the Bella Blvd Daily Chevies kit. I even used some of the 12×12 papers for the layers behind my photo.

I pulled some tiny word stickers, a black doily and a mix of thickers and little alpha stickers from my stash.

I had a heap of fun putting this together!! It has been a little while since I pulled some prompts so it must be almost time for me to pull some more! I have been busy doing lots of copic colouring and slowly catching up on our PL album. I realy, really hope to share some more PL pages here but I need to take some more photos and edit etc so fingers crossed, soon!!

As always, thanks so much for stopping by and happy scrapping!!

Challenge 161 – Anything Goes with Tiddly Inks

Hi there!!

Another super quick share today! And yep, a few days late again!! Haha! This time I had to wait for hubby to deliver this card to his brother for his birthday so, hence the delay.

I just love an Anything Goes challenge!! So fun and I can do anything!! Woo hoo!!

Here is the card that I created using the Hello Pet digi stamp set – only the dragon.

I have used a Daffodil Delight cardstock base and I pulled out a bunch of scraps in black and white, layered them all up on the card base and then applied a very light coat of gesso just to tone it all back a bit and give it a bit of uniformity 🙂 It’s not very clear in the photo but I have used a dot stencil with the brushed pewter distress stain in some sections of the background. I then dyed some cheesecloth using a daffodil delight re-inker. While that dried I used some black water colour paint to splatter across the background, then pulled out these 2 tickets from my stash (they are Tim Holtz tickets), inked them with black archival ink and also around the card front. I attached the cheesecloth and then my coloured dragon with hot glue to give it some lift.

Here is a little close up

The copic colours I used are:
C0, C1, C3, C5, C7, C10, 100 (black), Y02, R24, R29 and R59

Well, that’s if for me for today. Grab yourself your fave TI stamp and join in our challenge!!

Oh, one more thing before I go. The lovely Rhea over at Passionate Paper Creations and Friends on Facebook is having a fun weekend in celebration of all things Tiddly Inks so head over and join in the fun!! There are lots of prizes up for grabs over the weekend and right now there is even a special $1 digi available!!

As always, thank you so very much for taking the time to stop by and an extra special thanks for the comments I receive. I read all of them and am honestly flattered by every single one, so thank you and happy crafting!!

A Birthday Card with D-Lish Scraps Inspiration Board

Hi there! And sorry it has been so long since I blogged or shared anything!! I have been sick, my boys have been sick, my little guy is in a big bed and waking everyone up at stupid o’clock in the morning so trying to catch up with everything!! But I am here today to share a mixed media card that I made over the weekend for my Step-Dad for his 60th birthday!!

I saw this board with D-lish and just fell in love!! This is one of my most favourite colour combos EVER!!

Here is their board

And here is the card I created

I had lots of fun putting this together!

I started with a piece of water colour paper, applied a quick coat of gesso then grabbed my modelling paste and a Tim Holtz stencil. When that dried I got out my water colour paints and got to work on the background. It’s a bit hard to see in the photos but there is 2 different shades of yellow splatters in the background. Also, that arrow sticker has a bit of an ombre effect. Then I pulled out my “Clockworks” stamp set from SU and stamped away!

Once all the water colours were dried I grabbed out one of my sticker sheets from the use it or lose it box (funnily enough the same one I keep going for!!) which is where the black chalkboard sticker, the arrow sticker and the circle sticker all came from. Inked them all up in black ink to match the card front then found some scrap paper and cut around a tag, found a die cut which I coloured black with an ink pad, stamped the “birthday” and attached the “happy” with my tiny attacher.

I added some black and yellow thread for interest behind the sticker layers then used my hot glue gun to stick it all down. Oh, those little word stickers are from my stash, MME I think…..

And here is a close up of the details where the stickers are

So, as I mentioned I had a heap of fun making this little card and am entering it into the D-lish Scraps current Inspiration Board “Captured Moments”

Thanks for stopping by and I really, really hope to back soon with some more creations! I am having withdrawals!! haha!

Happy scrapping!!
