Scrap the Boys | February 2021 | Here Comes Trouble

Hello, hello and welcome to my (somewhat neglected!!) blog! The first of the month means another new challenge over at Scrap The Boys and I am excited to share my page!

And here is the challenge!

Ah, yep!! My page looks nothing like the sketch but sketches are a jumping off point! I was totally inspired by the squares in the background and started my design from there! You can see in my process video below how that changed quiet drastically!!

The important thing is that I have a story documented and that I had FUN creating this page! I can’t wait to see what you do with this sketch so make sure you head over to the FB page to load up your entry for the month!

I’ll leave you with a few close ups but make sure you head over to the STB blog for all of the other amazing DT inspiration we have to share!

I hope that you have enjoyed my share and I look forward to seeing what you create with this fun sketch!

CUT to YOU | For The Record

Hello and welcome to my blog today! I’m excited to be sharing my first project for CUT to YOU for August with you!

As you can see I’ve used the fun new “Office Clips” cut file. I’ve cut 5 of these on textured white cardstock after I altered them a tiny bit to make them like Instax prints.

On a whim I had also cut this “For The Record” title to fill the empty space on my white cardstock and then decided that it would work perfectly for the title for this page!

I’ve used the Shimelle “Never Grow Up” collection for this page and I really love the fun, kinda whimsy look of my finished page. You can see this come together on my YT video which is linked below!

And to finish off, here are a few close up shots!

I hope you have enjoyed my share today and I can’t wait to come back later in the month with my next page which I am already working on!! Until then, head over to the shop here for the awesome August release and make sure you sign up to the newsletter for the twice a month freebies!!

Happy scrapping,

March 2020 Homemade Kit | Layout 3 | Best Friends

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog today!!

Yes, you are reading correctly, it is Melinda and this is my blog and this is a brand new post!! It’s been a while I know but, like I’ve said previously, this is not my fave platform to share on so I often forget about it! But, I am hoping to maybe keep it a little more updated, even just for a “here is the latest page I created, you can see it here and here” kinda thing!!

Anyways, firstly, wherever you are I hope you are well, with those you love and staying safe! I am currently at home full time with my 2 boys. We are making the best of the situation though that can be hard some days! Hubby is due to start working from home soon (hopefully tomorrow) so we will then have another “new normal” to adjust to!

If you don’t follow me elsewhere I will start with what I am using and why!

I was inspired by Sue Plumb in March (yes, March lol!) to create my own homemade kit from my stash. Sue was inspired by Khristina Sorge and the monthly “recipe” she shares on her blog each month for said kit. Jumping in while I was inspired I created my own homemade kit and you can see all the contents of that kit here in my YT video.
Here is the recipe I used for the kit and I have linked Khristina’s blog above so you can go check her out too! And see the new April kit lol

I have already created 2 pages with this kit and you can see process videos for both of them below

Process video is below

And the second page

And the process video for this one

Which brings me to THIS share! Layout 3 that I created late one night!
I am enrolled in Shimelle‘s newest class “Start with a Sketch” and have used one of the sketches in it to create this and I really, really love how it turned out!!

Here are some close up’s

I am so pleased I got so many elements onto this page from my kit! There are 2 paper clips, 3 of the word veneer pieces (which I painted gold) along with some of the confetti type tiny veneer pieces AND I have used some of that Vicki Boutin specialty paper!!

I still have quiet a bit left in my kit and am so eager to pull it out and get it used! This month has seen my finish off quiet a number of things that have sat on my desk for ages including our 2019 December Daily album!! WOOHOO! I will do a video flip through of that when I can find enough quiet time in my house and share on my YT channel!

If you don’t follow me on other social media here are my links, I would love to have you join me on any one or all of them!!

FB page – Melinda Sweetman Scrapbooking: https://www.facebook.com/melindasweetmanscrapbooking

That’s it for me for today but I really am hoping to get over here a little more often and share! I hope you have enjoyed and I’ll see you again soon!

CUT to YOU | Let’s Get Crafty

Hello my scrappy friends and welcome to my blog today! I’m sharing my latest DT project with you for CUT to YOU! Yep, I said project and not page again!
I actually created this a little while ago as a gift but couldn’t share it until this month as the cut file was one of the fantastic freebies Gwen offered for iNSD! Did you manage to snag yourself this cut file for free? If not head over here to the Etsy store and you buy it now!
This is the project I created and it is actually in a frame by Ikea called “Ribba”. The inside dimension of the frame is about 9″ square and I thought the perfect size for an OTP project that wasn’t ginormous or too heavy!
I started by cutting the title and the scissors on some smooth white cardstock keeping in mind the limitations of the inside of the frame.
I decided to back the whole title with some vellum, except for the heart in the middle of the ‘A’ as I had come up with an idea for the background that did not involve any mixed media lol The person this was gifted to is a (very talented!!) quilter so I used her craft to inspire my background for this!
I have pulled out an older 6×6 paper pad by Shimelle and cut a heap of 1″ squares to create my background. Without much rhyme or reason, other than not having 2 of the same pattern next to each other, I randomly stuck down the squares to form a kind of quilt like pattern onto some cardstock. To really go with that idea of quilting I also used my sewing machine and did a zig zag stitch on every line, both horizontally and vertically.
With the main part of my design good to go I got to work on my scissors! I’ve used the same pink from the heart in the ‘A’ to back the handles. (cause who wouldn’t love a pair of pink handled scissors?!)
Next I have created my own holographic paper for the blades. This was really easy to do with my Minc machine and the Minc mist! I simply painted some of the mist onto some scrap paper, let that dry thoroughly and then ran my scraps through my Minc with the holographic foil and voila!! I love how these scissors came out!
Time to put it all together! I used foam adhesive around the whole title and also behind the scissors and then used my wet adhesive to stick it all to my “quilted” back ground.
I have recorded my process for this as well so I do hope you enjoy!

This was a super fun project to create and it would be so easy to replicate! And using different papers you would get a completely different look so next time you have a gift to give, maybe you could think a little outside the norm!

I hope you have enjoyed and I shall see you next month my next share!
Happy scrapping!

{ScrappingClearly} Dream ~ Scrapbook Layout

Hi there my scrappy friends and welcome to the ScrappingClearly blog this lovely Monday! Melinda here with you today sharing a page I created using (once again!) the very awesome Starshine collection by Shimelle! I just can’t help myself, I love it!!

Here is my page

I was VERY inspired by this page shared on You Tube by Lillith Eeckels and had a bunch of stars I had created that I wanted to use up and went with this design! Isn’t it fun!

I started by stitching that black circle onto my background after drawing (about in the middle) a circle using an empty paint pallet of the page as a template. I went around about 6-7 times and I LOVE the texture it gives!!

I created my stars by first cutting a half or 3/4 of a full 12×12 piece of white card on my cameo. Next a quick coat of gesso, some stamping with black permanent ink and then COLOUR! I have used some Colour Shimmer Dusts by Colour Blast – these little pots are AMAZING to play with. I have used Candy and I think Cobalt but it may have been Peacock…..

When I stuck them down I just used a little dot of wet adhesive in the middle of each star and love the dimension I have achieved!

I used a couple of layers of papers (namely the Gemini and Hubble) behind my photo and then I have used the Chipboard, Flair, Thickers, Paper Clips and Rub-On pens to embellish. Oh and the background paper is Juno!

I have used one of the clear stickers for the title (I stuck that to some white smooth cardstock and fussy cut) and also a few acetate pieces from the ephemera pack!

Lastly the journalling, the date and some splatters, again using the Colour Shimmer Dusts and a paint brush! Oh, and a hint of the Midnight Colour Shimmer Dust to balance out the black of the stitching, the stamping and also my journalling!

If you would like to see my whole process the YouTube process video is linked below! Make sure to subscribe to the channel so you can keep up with all of the new shares over there!

As always, thank you so much for stopping by and I will see you next time! Happy scrapping!

{ScrappingClearly DT} Top Nine

Hello there fellow ScrappingClearly fans, I’m here with you today sharing another page I have made using my most favourite collection of all time. EVER. The Starshine collection designed by Shimelle.

This layout started as a little idea that popped into my head one night while I was trying to sleep (does that happen to anyone else?!) and involved the stitching and a BIG title. My idea kinda evolved and changed during the making but I am super happy with how it all came together in the end!!

If you would like to watch my process you can find my process video here and read on for more details and close ups!

You can see the stitching I have done on the background (I used this paper and mounted on this paper) using a needle and thread and I have actually not stitched behind where the photo is. I used this tutorial to get my cameo to do all the hard work of making the holes for me and it made the process a) quicker and b) the holes were that tiny bit bigger and easier to sew through!

After the stitching was done I went in with some similar colours of Colour Blast sprays (bubblegum, sunset, saffron and lagoon) and did droplets all across the area where I knew I wanted most of the embellishments.

The photograph I decided to scrap was one that Instagram shared with me early this year and it is my Top 9 photos of 2015. I have included a little pull out card from this cut apart sheet behind the photo with matching number stickers from the accent and phrase stickers from the collection and a little blurb about each photo.

I have used the awesomely cool thickers in this collection for the title, I love all the different colours in it and I love that font, it’s so fun!

That floral paper is one of my most fave from the collection and I HAD to fussy cut some of the flowers to use as embellishments and love how it looks!

I have secretly been hoarding those gorgeous acrylic shapes but figured it was time to get them on a page so I have used the butterfly, the word shine and both hearts.

At the very end I did a few little sprinkles using the Colour Blast Colour Spray in Roadbase (flat black colour).

If you have any questions or comments please feel free to leave a comment and I will get back to you ASAP!!

Thanks again so much for taking the time to stop by and happy scrapping!

{Project Life} Week 21

Hi there my lovely followers and any newbies stopping by today I am here sharing with you a recent Project Life spread I have completed!

It has been a little while since I have done a PL share and I have a few photo’s to edit and upload but for week 21 I have actually completed my very 1st process video of my PL process so I would love it if you would stop by and take a look here.

If, for whatever reason you have not seen it or can’t here are all the detail shots and little detail about what I have used and/or done 🙂

I have used the Shimelle Laine Starshine collection for this week, I’m pretty sure it is my all time favourite collection. EVER. I have used the 6×6 paper pad, the sticker sheet, the ephemera pack, the thickers, the decorative tape, the chipboard pieces, both the roller stamp and the acrylic stamp and also the rub on pens! Oh, and at the very end, some Roadbase Colour Spray by Colour Blast Australia.

First up, the left hand side in completion

I ALWAYS work on our title card first up so here is a close up of that

A couple more close up’s of the left hand side

And onto the right hand side

And a few close ups

If you have any questions, please just ask away! I hope you enjoyed watching my process or seeing all the close ups!

Thanks so much for stopping by and happy scrapping!

Party Like a Superhero

Hi, hi and welcome to my blog today!! I am super excited to share this page!!

I was sent the stunning Starshine collection by Shimelle – it has finally landed in Australia but be quick to pick yourself up some of the bits before they are all sold out!! I have been awaiting this collection since it was first released at CHA earlier this year and it was so worth waiting for, Shimelle, you have totally nailed it again!!

Ok, enough with my fan-girl, love the collection talk and onto the page I created!

This page actually started as an experiment! I was on a local scrappy retreat and had taken along some white card stock and my fun new Bling Colour Blast paste. I picked up a 12×12 stencil while at retreat and figured what better time to have a play!!

The Colour Blast paste went on beautifully and dried super quick! As the colour dried it became more beautiful than what you see in the pot and honestly, if you want a gold texture paste, give it a go!! It’s really difficult to see in the photo’s but I also mixed some of that texture paste with water to make it quiet fluid to add some gold splatters along the diagonal from the top left to the bottom right.

I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do with the page while I was still on retreat so I brought it home and went through my stash of photo’s keeping in mind that I was desperate to cut into the Starshine collection. I pulled out these photo’s of myself and my niece and myself with my bestie (and also my niece’s Mum) at their joint birthday party from January – they went perfectly with the collection!

I used some blue acrylic paint mixed with water and some plastic packaging to create that water coloured background and LOVE how it turned out!

Here is a close up of the photo cluster

My page warped HEAPS so I decided to mount it on that red “Juno” paper since I had used the blue paint in the background.

I cut apart some of the boxes from the “Galileo” paper and layered those in a fun, messy way behind my photo’s, chopping bits from all of the rectangles so I could use them in multiple places behind the photo’s. The camera’s are also fussy cut from one of the papers – “Pathfinder” and that little tab is from the “Orion” paper. I also pulled some red thread from my stash to bring a bit more red into the page.

You can also see here in the top left corner some of the splatters using the bling texture paste mixed with water.

The title is mostly made up of letters from my stash – the classic blue and red (glittery of course!!) superhero colours with a little bit of black. The blue letters are actually these ones by Heidi Swapp 🙂

A close up of some of the detail of the stencil and blue water colour.

You can also very faintly see the lighter gold flecks from the water/texture paste combination.

And one last photo at a different angle!

I love, love, love how this page turned out. And though it was hard to cut into those much anticipated papers by Shimelle I am so pleased I got to play with this collection and my new gold texture paste! I can’t wait to pull it out and play some more!!

Thanks for stopping by!
